Garbo

I love to waltz with a man in a dark linen suit
All alone -- at a party with someone I knew
From a time gone by, turned into stone
You could be Garbo or even Marlene
You could be Marilyn...
Or you could forget
I play the part, but, then, all of us do
And I do it so well as I do it to you
In this town full of strangers
In this town full of fools
Venus doesn't glitter when she stands next to you
When you're waltzing through stardom
You miss what you lose
Lose yourself in a silvery dress
For you think you must do what you feel you do best
And you mustn't give it up, for you're still but a guest
You could be Garbo or even Marlene...
Or you could forget
Forget...forget...forget
You could be Garbo
You could forget
You could forget

"This is when I got the first dose of what it might be like, that Lindsey and I went to have our picture taken and there was like, there was a lot of people at this uh, the photographer’s house, which is a big two-story fabulous house. And there was like girls everywhere , like leaning up agaisnt the wall, waitin’ to have their pictures taken or something, you know? And I was like, you know, "I [emziasomething or other]," you know? And I was horrified to somehow be thrown in, there I was having my picture taken, and not such a great picture, either and how I walked outta there, going, "You know, I’m really going to have to really take a deep breath and try to get through all this, because, it’s gonna be hard for me to be, you know, to have that sexist kinda thing thrown in." And so you know, in "After The Glitter Fades", the feeling remains even after the gliter fades, um, in "Garbo" it says, um, uh, "You could be Garbo, or even Marliana?] or you could be Marilyn" or you could basically get out now, because it is that dangerous. Um, all those little things, you know that scared me about it and when people ask me now, you know, "What was it that you know, that frightened you?" That was the part of it that frightened me of being pushed into that and not being able to be that artist that I wanted to be. You know? I play the part, but then all of us do, and you do it so well, as I do it to you, in this town full of strangers in this town full of fools, venus doesn’t sparkle when she stands next to you. When you’re waltzing thru stardom, that’s what you loose. That’s the one I wrote after the photo session for the Buckingham Nicks cover."
